Computer

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Nikki who loved to play games on her computer. She was curious about how the computer worked and what made it so smart and fun. One day, she asked her father to explain the basic parts of the computer to her.

Her father smiled and said, “Well, Nikki, a computer is like a big puzzle that has many pieces that work together. Each piece has a different function and a different name. Let me show you some of them.”

He took Nikki to his desk and pointed at the monitor. “This is the monitor. It is like the eyes of the computer. It shows you what the computer is doing and lets you see the games, pictures, videos and words on the screen.”

He then pointed at the keyboard. “This is the keyboard. It is like the mouth of the computer. It lets you type letters, numbers and symbols to tell the computer what you want to do. You can also use it to chat with your friends online or write stories like this one.”

He moved on to the mouse. “This is the mouse. It is like the hand of the computer. It lets you move a pointer on the screen and click on things to select them or open them. You can also use it to draw, drag and drop things on the screen.”

He then opened the case of the computer and showed Nikki the inside. “This is where the brain and the heart of the computer are. The brain is called the CPU, which stands for Central Processing Unit. It is like a very fast calculator that can do many things at once. It processes all the information and instructions that you give to the computer and makes it work.”

He pointed at a small fan inside the case. “This is the cooling fan. It is like the lungs of the computer. It helps keep the CPU from getting too hot by blowing air over it.”

He then pointed at a large board with many wires and chips on it. “This is the motherboard. It is like the spine of the computer. It connects all the other parts of the computer together and lets them communicate with each other.”

He showed Nikki a small metal box with wires coming out of it. “This is the power supply. It is like the stomach of the computer. It converts electricity from the wall socket into power that the computer can use.”

He then pointed at a rectangular device with a slot in it. “This is the CD-ROM drive. It is like the mouth of the computer. It lets you insert CDs or DVDs into it and read or write data on them. You can use it to play games, watch movies or listen to music on your computer.”

He finally pointed at a large device with many wires coming out of it. “This is the hard disk drive. It is like the memory of the computer. It stores all your files, programs, games, pictures, videos and music on it. You can access them anytime you want as long as they are not deleted or corrupted.”

He closed the case of the computer and said, “There are many other parts of the computer that I haven’t shown you, but these are some of the most important ones. Do you understand now how a computer works, Nikki?”

Nikki nodded and said, “Yes, Papa , I do. Thank you for explaining it to me so well. You are very smart and kind.”

Her father hugged her and said, “You’re welcome, Nikki. I’m glad you learned something new today. And you are very smart and kind too.”

They smiled at each other and then turned on the computer to play some games together.
